Day Hike and Picnic

Spent yesterday with my family out in Kananaskis Country, Alberta. We drove from Calgary to the Elbow Lake camp grounds where we hiked for about a half hour to get to this beautiful picnic spot.

It was a steep climb to the end of the hike but honestly those are the hikes I like the best. Short but steep, feel the burn, haha. We ate a really yummy picnic (thanks Dad and Adrienne) and just walked around taking a ton of photos and just hanging out.

My favourite thing about where I live is that we are so close to a ton of great hiking trails and surrounded by so much beautiful scenery, which is awesome for me as i’m really trying to work on my photography skills.

It’s great to have days like this with my family since it really doesn’t happen that often! We’re all so busy with our own lives it’s special when we can all get together and go out and do something like this.

I’d definitely recommend this hike for anyone who maybe isn’t the biggest fan of hiking (or if you’re with kids) or just wants to quickly get to a beautiful view without a two hour hike. It was a pretty busy place, i’m sure going on a weekday would be better for parking and privacy if you want it. The water has fish, so if you’re into fishing i’d say this is a great spot. Really nice and clean campground too!

Kylie Jenner Inspired Look

I guess i’m on a Kylie kick right now but I mean come on, she has by far the best makeup in hollywood. I’ve been noticing that she hasn’t been doing a harsh black liquid eye liner lately and has been doing a soft smudged black eyeshadow instead. So I really wanted to recreate that.

It’s a really easy look to do, the fact that it requires tape makes all the difference. You don’t have to be perfectly precise to get a nice liner because even if you go outside the lines or mess us the tape is there to keep your line underneath very clean.

You don’t need to use any of the same products that I used to create this look but i’m going to insert them anyways just for those who are curious or want to try these exact products!

First things first, get your face makeup on. I started with my Nyx Studio Perfect Photo Loving Primer, then went in with my Revlon Colorstay Foundation in 240 Medium Beige. Waited for that to dry a bit then went in with my Revlon Colorstay Concealer in 02 Light.

I use my beauty blender to buff in all my foundations and concealers. To set my foundation and concealer I use Rimmel Stay Matte Translucent Powder, I don’t put it all over my entire face I just put it everywhere I’m not going to be putting bronzer or blush. I do that just because I don’t want to be piling on unnecessary powder. I want to avoid looking cakey at all costs.

I slightly contoured my face with the colour Sombre from the Kat Von D Shade + Light palette. Then went in with Benefits Hoola bronzer to lighten up my face. I used Nars blush in Gaiety. Next is eyebrows, I don’t do anything too complicated, (i’m going to do a post on my eyebrow routine soon.) I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Soft Brown. Now the face is done and onto the eyes.

Placement of the tape is what I had to practice the most when i’ve done this look in the past. You don’t want it at too steep of an angle. I lay it so it’s pretty much in line with my lower lash line, making sure it’s not meeting up with my eyebrows as I find that’s too steep for my face and the liner doesn’t look right. I’m not using any eyeshadow for my lids, i’m using contour colours only, Shadowplay from the Kat Von D Shade + Light palette all over the lid, and Sombre from the same palette in my crease. Make sure you’re blending the colours right up to the tape so you’ll get a nice clean line once you pull it off.

Next we’re going to go in  with the colour Creep from the Urban Decay Naked Palette. I’m using a really small gel eyeliner brush so that I can get the control I need. This colour was awesome to use because it’s not the blackest black but it is buildable and left me with the really soft effect I was going for, really easy to blend.

Then I carefully pulled the tape off and added some mascara! I use Covergirl Lashblast Volume in Blackest Black. I used Kylie Cosmetics Dolce K lipliner on my lips and put Mac’s Lipglass in Love Child on top.

And we’re done!

I love this look and it’s honestly all i’ve been doing on my eyes when i’ve wanted a more dramatic look this past month. It’s nice to have a break from the really dark harsh lines from a liquid liner but you still get a really pretty cat-eye effect.

Kylie Lip Kit Review

So I finally bit the bullet and ordered some Kylie Lip Kits!

The hardest part about it was picking out the colours I wanted, since living in Canada means that shipping will be ermmm…. not ideal pricing, I wanted to make sure I got at least two colours to make the shipping worth it.

The only colour i’d actually seen in person before ordering my own was Candy K. Which I loved, but thought it might be a little bit more pink than i’d like and I don’t think i’d have gotten as much wear out of it. So I ended up ordering Posie K and Dolce K. Kind of shots in the dark because honestly these lip kits look different on each girl that wears them. But from what I read and saw about these colours I think they’d be the two that would suit me the best. Posie K is a more Berry colour, with purple undertones, which I think flatters my hazel eyes. Dolce K was one of the original three colours that Kylie released and i’ve had my eye on it forever, it’s just so different than any other colour that I own or have even seen before. A brown based colour with some purple mixed in. I love it and I think it gives a cool edgy vibe.IMG_3541

The formula is just as good as everyone says. It’s not just Kardashian/Jenner hype, or hardcore Kylie fans saying its perfect even if its not. These things are amazing. Not coming off without makeup remover perfect. The liners are really creamy and easy to use, and the lipsticks go on super wet so they’re easy to move around and get where you want it to be before drying instantly.

My overall review is a positive one. I think it’s nice to have a few of the actual lip kits, but I do think that i’ll be checking out some of the dupes that are out there. (Colorpop has some very very similar colours for $6.) It’s hard and honestly kind of annoying to wait for Kylie to restock, and even then things sell out so fast you have to be on your game or it’s a no go.

When they get faster and cheaper international shipping I will be ordering more, or refilling when I use these two colours dry. If my shipping wasn’t twenty bucks this would have been such a good deal, $29 for a lipstick annnddd liner is amazing.

I’d love for her to release a brick red colour, similar to Kat Von D’s Lolita II, and maybe a more pink shade of one of the glosses. Then i’d for sure be keeping my eyes peeled for another restock, but for now these two colours are perfect.

Hilary Duff Inspired Makeup

Soooo, my girl, Hilary Duff, is going to be on this months Cosmo. Seeing as it’s the cover of my birthday month (April) and she’s my favourite human, I figured it would be fitting to do a makeup look inspired by her cover.

I found it pretty easy to match colours and get basically the same look as Hilary. Obviously i’m not as flawless with those eyes and cheekbones, but still think it turned out pretty well.

image3 (1) image2 (3)

Here are the products I used;

Mac’s “Painterly” Paint Pot

Mac’s “Pink Swoon” Blush and NYX’s Dark Tan Bronzer, I made sure to really contour my cheeks to try and achieve the high cheek bone look that Hilary has.

Mac’s “Woodwinked” all over lid, and below bottom lashes. Then “Espresso” in crease, worked mainly towards the outer corner.

DSC_0120 (I know I need to repurchase this one hehe.)

Mac’s “Coffee” Coal liner, smudged on top lash line only.

and lastly, Mac’s “Underage” Lip gloss, Hilary had a really natural lip so I used this to mainly give some flare to the lips.

That’s it! An easy look to recreate. Obviously I don’t know exactly the brands, colours, or techniques used on Hilary but this was my recreation of it. Hope you guys enjoyed!

Christmas Gift Guide: For Her

Ever have trouble thinking of what to get the ladies in your life? Gift cards can be easy, and yeah they make sure the person can buy something they’ll love, but I think they can be boring, and not nearly as thoughtful! Giving something tangible is so much for fun, and the person will think of you every time they use, wear, or look at what you’ve given them.

I put together this guide full of things that I know any and all of the woman in my life would love and appreciate.

1) Daniel Wellington Watches.

These are super popular right now. Classy, simple, and you can change the bands so you can achieve a different look without having to buy a whole new watch.

2) Blanket Scarves.

These are exxxtremely popular right now. They come in lots of colours and designs, and are super warm and comfy, not to mention stylish. Aritzia is where i’ve always bought mine, and they have amazing online shopping if you aren’t Canadian and don’t live near one.

3) Polaroid Camera.

Everyone loves the look of polaroid photos right now, really unique, rustic, and special way to capture memories. Make a memory wall in your room with all the polaroids, or make your instagram look really cool by taking photos of photos.

4) Unique/Handmade Jewelry

This is a really awesome way to get your girl something that nobody else will have. A really special and unique gift. Handmade jewelry is always so much more original, pretty, and special than the mass made stuff.

Etsy is a great place to search. I’ve attached below some of my favourite handmade jewelry sites.

Varying Prices.

5) Quality Candles:

I remember getting my first nice quality candles, they smell amazing, last a little longer, and honestly just make your feel fancy and classy. Which I think is something every girl likes to feel from time to time. My favourite is Diptyque Paris. They’re amazing and worth the hype.

($30-$60 Depending on size purchased)

Anthropologie has some amazing candles as well, smell so good, not too sickly or overpowering like most scented candles.

6) Nike

I’ve noticed Nike has become super popular not only for those who love to work out, but just wearing the brand has been seen as a fashion statement. They have a million designs to choose from in the nike free runners, which are my personal favourite as I’ve worked out in them for years. Sweatshirts, sweatpants, and sports bras are also great choices.

Hope that this was helpful, and even if you don’t love any specific things that i’ve posted, hopefully this gave you some inspiration!

Christmas is just around the corner! If you plan on shopping online i’d order your stuff asap.

Happy Holidays Friends!

Kylie Jenner Inspired Lips

Processed with VSCOcam with se3 preset Processed with VSCOcam with m3 preset

I know, I know, most of the time Kylie’s lips can come off a little clownish..over done, but sometimes they look amazing, plump, and natural. I wanted to try and find a lipstick and a lip liner that can pull off a similar look.

I was successful in finding those shades! If you didn’t already know…if I ever need to buy cosmetics from the drugstore I am most likely am buying NYX products, they are amazing and extremely underrated.

Lipstick Colour: “Whipped Cavier”

Lip Liner Colour: “Mauve”

I’m in love with both of these. I have never been known to wear lip liner before, but it really makes a difference if you are trying to make your lips fuller. If you line right outside your natural lip line, you can add fullness to your lips without it looking obvious at all. Really works!

If you ever thought, against popular belief, that Kylie has amazing lips, then you should try this out.

OOTD: Faux Leather and Blanket Scarves

Processed with VSCOcam with se3 preset Processed with VSCOcam with m2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with m1 preset

Although we do have snow where I live, it wasn’t cold enough today that I needed to wear a Parka, yay! Yes there are cute Parka’s out there to buy and yes you can make dressing for -40 celsius weather cute in some ways… I prefer lighter jackets and layering. The sun was shining and the snow was melting, perfect weather for layering.

The letterman jacket with faux leather sleeves is from Forever 21, such a steal and I was so happy when I found it.

The Faux leather leggings I got from Top Shop a few weeks ago, they are super comfortable and have a good stretch. Make sure you get them a size down, they have enough stretch that they’ll fit, but when you wear them a ton they do stretch out a bit.

My shoes are from Steve Madden, I love how they have a slightly pointed toe and have zippers on both sides.

My favourite part of the outfit is by far the Blanket Scarf purchased at Aritzia, of course I got it in the black, grey combo. It’s so comfortable and you can wear it in a million different ways.
